Light rays which are reflected by any surface can become polarized so polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. The HOYA CIR-PL (CPL) filters allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc... They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot.

Hardened Glass
Hardened optical glass that has 4 times the breaking strength in ANSI standardized testing (ANSI Z80.3 : 2001) where a steel ball of various size and weight was dropped from a height of 50 inches onto the glass.
High Transparency Polarizing Film
The polarizing film is the same as the one used in the latest high definition LCD TV screens. It has 25% higher light transmission than a standard polarizing film used in current photographic filters.
Hardened 8 Layer Waterproof Multi-Coating
Newly developed industry leading 8-layer multi-coating yields an average light transmission rate of 99.35% between 400 and 700nm (visible spectrum). These coatings greatly reduce reflections off the surface of the glass allowing you to capture more light in your photos. As with all HOYA multi-coatings, HD HMC is applied in a furnace at high heat, bonding the coating to the surface of the glass. This process is called "hard coating" and it is far more durable than any other coating techniques. The chemistry of the top layer is formulated not just to be more durable but to be resistant to oil stains. This means that fingerprints and other types of oil marks are much easier to remove.
